TransportType

A TransportType is a lookup entity that classifies the mode of transport used for goods delivery — for example "Truck", "Train", "Ship", or "Self-Collection by Customer". Contracts and contract positions reference a TransportType to document how goods are expected to be physically moved between the source and destination. One TransportType can be flagged as the system default, pre-selecting it in new contracts and reducing manual input for the most common delivery mode.

Beyond the logistical description, TransportType can influence document generation — certain transport modes may require specific sections in delivery notes or transport orders. In integrations with logistics platforms or customs systems, the TransportType code is often mapped to a standardized mode-of-transport identifier required by the external system, making this seemingly simple lookup entity an important bridge between internal workflow and external compliance documentation.
